Dr. Corkum is registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP). She is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). Dr. Corkum is a member, as well as a past president, of the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS). In 2015, on the 50th Anniversary of the founding of APNS, Dr. Corkum was honoured to receive a Pioneer Award from APNS in recognition of her long history of service to the association and its development. Dr. Corkum is a published author in the area of Child Development and a Clinical Associate at Dalhousie University. She is active in the training and supervision of students and psychologists on the candidate register.

Dr. Corkum's practice covers a full range of services to children, teens, parents and adults. She conducts psychoeducational, developmental and diagnostic assessments and provides on-going psychotherapy/treatment. She also offers school/preschool consultation, home visits, program/IPP development and educational workshops. Dr. Corkum is particularly interested in the areas of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD), Learning Disabilities (LD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders.


Dr. Corkum works Wednesday through Friday.

Dr. Valerie Corkum, B.Sc., M.A., Ph.D., is a registered psychologist with more than 27 years’ experience in the field of Psychology. Dr. Corkum possesses a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) with a specialization in Psychology and minors in Education and Biology from Dalhousie University; a Master of Arts with a specialization in Applied Psychology from the University of New Brunswick; and a Doctorate with a specialization in Clinical Psychology from Dalhousie University.
